I really dig that artificer armor.  But for some reason I don't detect any life in him.  My first impression was an empty suit of armor in a castle.  Perhaps because his eye lens are black.

I was young. Didn't know things.

But in all seriousness, I've never figured out why do viewports have to glow. I believe you want to opposite when designing any equipment.
As the perfect example I take Sam Fisher who has night vision goggles that you want to be stealthy, GLOW green lights. ( I do realize that its basically the symbol for the character and that glowing pieces look much better then just plain goggles) What I'm trying to say, that its sometimes okay for them not to glow. :D
Also yes, I agree, the character here looks stiff as a board, could as well be a empty suit of armor.

You're absolutely right.  The Warhammer community is usually Lock-in-step with orthodoxy to the point where it may stifle logical thinking (like cumbersome banner poles of commanders, helmet-less Sargent, extreme spiky Chaos lords, and of course glowing viewports).  Sometimes we get too critical of things that really don't matter in the end.  Your painting is still great by its own merits, and is something to be proud of.

There is much lore about the targeting HUD of Space Marine helmets, and like you said, such devices would not always be in the "On" setting.  Or, as I have also seen depicted in animations, a means to instill fear and menace to the enemy, etc.

But I think the real reason for the glowing eye lenses was because the miniature painters wanted to provide a better contrast to the rest of the head anatomy by using bright contrast colors that would show which way the head was facing on a on a tiny 23 mm miniature.

Thanks for the praise, but its been so long since I've done this piece that I'm ashamed when I see it.

Funny thing I've found, since I'm into roleplaying games, in Black Crusade a poor quality Autogoggles actually glow in the dark. Hence its harder to sneak in them.
Hehe.

Yes, and I completely agree on the artistic standpoint. It makes the model look alive, and in a painting, makes them look more intimidating, but its so overused to a point where it is expected to be seen. Absence of it creates a gap in our perception of the thing...

Thanks for the comment.
I rather like talking with people that have something to say.

Well...I'd wet myself if I saw him coming towards me in a dark alley.  Or even a brightly-lit street.  I like the scratch marks and bullet damage on his armour.

Hail and Well met friend. I must say..........This is what Space Wolves should be shown as, when reading the omnibii, this is how I see them. You capture the savagery, the lust for battle, but at the same the devout strength of courage a space marine shows. You also seem to capture the Gene Curse(Or gift to some) in his stance with the way he has a lightning claw on his right yet still has the strength of will close in with a krakentooth chainsword. Again, I tip my hat to you. HAGALL SIGR!!!

Great work here man, I especially like the rise of the gorget like in the Errant model power armor. The segmented armor on the fur loincloth was a nice touch as well. Possibly a concept for the future look of Veteran Space Wolves.

I kinda wanted to bring out that more VIKING in spacewolves... If they could fight with somehow less armour... I would do that xD

Completely agree, maybe remove the upper arm and thigh armor and place fur on top of one of the shoulder pauldrons, but alas the Wolves need all the protection they can wear. Again, great work.

Its quite nice actually. Good composition and all, though I wouldn't mind some more height to the pic to contrast with his mostly square frame. Also, colder shades in the bgr for more contrast with his suit? Because the building sorta seems too close to me. All in all I do like it though, especially since it's not lupus!
:D
